Greetings dear friends. Let me begin by thanking those of you who purchased ALL my remaining framed paintings! Well done. My hope is to have a new show ready by mid-November. In the meantime, museum quality prints on art paper or canvas are always avail HERE.
Nashvillians and nearby, this upcoming Saturday morning is the memoir event at the Tennessee State Museum 10:30AM-11:30AM. I’ll be interviewed by WPLN’s award-winning broadcast journalist Jason Moon Wilkins. Son Sam will join me for a few songs as well. Book signing following. Hope to see you in person! BTW, the empire book aggregator has the memoir on sale today for 50% off!
In advance of the upcoming concert/celebration evening with Amy and friends (06.18.25), I joined my friend, the indomitable, global health expert Jenny Dyer for a podcast appearance. We were interviewed by Andrew Kaufmann for The Strategerist Podcast (sponsored by the George W. Bush Presidential Center). Yes, it is named after Will Ferrell’s SNL send-up of the President’s propensity to tangle a word now and then. It should drop this week. I’ll put a link in image (please bookmark).
The podcast topic was global health and PEPFAR—U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief—set in motion by President George W. Bush. This is also a topic I covered in the memoir—telling the story of how an Irish rock star, an American Senator, a President, and a rag tag group of musical artists, along with thousands of volunteers, equippers, and storytellers changed the course of global health through PEPFAR and more. Most extraordinary, PEPFAR has saved 26 million lives and enabled 7.8 million babies to be born HIV-free. This is a remarkable global health achievement and cosmic act of neighbor love.
At the June 18th, Wednesday night event in Nashville, we will update you on the status of PEPFAR and the work yet to be done. And, you’ll hear music from Amy Grant, Brandon Heath, and Matt Maher. Yours truly will emcee and speak, along with other folks, including the aformentioned Jenny Dyer and Senator Frist via a video message.
I want to let you know that tickets have gone quickly. We have a capacity of 1,100 seats and by Friday there were only 200 tickets left. Use the QR code below or click on image. Hope to see you there. I will post info on PEPFAR at the bottom.
Some of you know I’ve been working on a long-term project which could be called How To Be A Good Ancestor, or Ten Difficult Steps To Avoid Leaving Your Children A Mess—whatever one calls it, I’m finally beginning to see the light at the end of the closets, storage spaces, and intellectual property.
This past week my grandson Robert and two misattributed “College Hunks” helped haul off more items that once had value. Picking through them, I noticed two small boxes filled with merch—empty journals from the No Man’s Land Tour of 2012. I pulled them aside. I think there’s 25 or so.
If you’d like one, I will have one sent for the price of one grandchild packing it up and the U.S. Postal service shipping. How does $20 sound? 48 continuous States only. Send a grandchild to college. Send us your land address and order via email at charliepeacockmusic@icloud.com and we will send info on payment.
After reading it again 13 years later, I still like what I wrote on the cover. Will close with a reprint. Peace to all.
Know the story you profess to be participating in. Know it well and tell it with enthusiasm. Tell it like other stories that excite and compel you. When you first learn to tell the story, get the shape right. Then fill in the details.
Thank you Erik. Yes, it is time again. Vital and hugely effective programs like PEPFAR are under threat of existence or underfunding. Many of us from 20+ years ago are returning to the public square again to remind our fellow citizens of the remarkable "neighbor love" work they have contributed to regarding just one aspect of global health. While not solely an American achievement, as you well know, this is one Americans can take great pride in having participated in. Regardless of where Democrats or Republicans land on the Bush II legacy, this is one he got right. Keep spreading the good word.
Excited about everything on this Stack, Charlie.
Glad you and others are elevating the conversation around global health.
