Parnassus: Let’s Make It a Night to Remember
You’re Invited to a Celebration of Roots & Rhythm: A Life in Music
Hello friends,
This is Charlie. On Tuesday, February 4th, 2025, I’ll be stepping into a moment I’ve dreamed about for a long time—the release of my memoir, Roots & Rhythm: A Life in Music. And I want you there to share it with me. We will gather at Parnassus Books in Nashville from 6:30 to 8:00 PM and make it a night to remember.
Here’s the plan:
I’ll read a little from the book—you know, serious + juicy bits about people and events.
Then I'll sit down with my daughter, Molly Nicholas (Director of Development at Nashville Public Radio), and my son, Sam Ashworth (Grammy and Oscar-nominated songwriter). We’ll talk about music, family, "the love of God in Christ Jesus" and my 50 year career as a musician—and maybe a little something about being “Charlie’s kid.”
The evening will also include some sublime performances from recording artists Scott Mulvahill and daughter-in-law Ruby Amanfu to set the night alight.
And, of course, I’ll be there to personalize your copy of the book if you’d like.
Note: Your ticket includes a signed hardcover copy of the memoir.
Seating is limited to 100, so grab your ticket now at Parnassus Books.
This is the only event I’m doing for Roots & Rhythm, and I want it to feel like a gathering of friends, family, and kindred spirits. Let’s fill the room with connection, music, and meaning. I can’t wait to make a new memory with you.
Peace and Love,
Charlie

12.11.24, backstage at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville, Tennessee with actor/singer Leslie Odom Jr. after his The Christmas Tour performance with band and symphony. If you’ve ever dreamed of hearing Nat King Cole live—this has to compare—though uniquely Leslie. His voice is melting butter on the best yeast roll you’ve ever tasted. Or, as I told him, “You are to singing, what Steph Curry is to basketball.” And he sang son Sam’s cowrite, the song “Cold.” L-R: daughter-in-law Ruby Amanfu, son-in-law Mark Nicholas, grandson Robert Nicholas, Leslie Odom Jr. with our granddaughter Brinsley Ashworth at his side, son Sam Ashworth, daughter Molly Nicholas, Andi Ashworth (“Honey”), granddaughter Bridget Ashworth, and the old man.
“Any musician who raised up a Grammy-nominated songwriter son like Sam Ashworth is a musician worth reading. I should know, Sam and I wrote the Oscar-nominated song ‘Speak Now’ together. This is the story of a music producer and his family that lives the music life like breathing. You can bet this book will be in my library.”
—Leslie Odom, Jr., Tony and Grammy Award winner and two-time Academy Award nominee
Hi Charlie, I’m the gal who contacted you a couple months ago, who wants to use your song “holding on and letting go” in conjunction with a Parkinson’s disease support group, of which I am a member. Sure wish I could get to Nashville, but nevertheless, I hope you have a great and meaningful get together with all that talent and 100 lucky guests! Best wishes to all! ~ Wendy
This is so thrilling! Can't wait to read this book, Charlie. Warmest congratulations!
