WHAT? A New Music & Meaning Podcast?
Or, why I will not miss the selling, but do love my friendship with Sara Groves
(L-R) Tommy Sims, Mike Elizondo, CP, and Clay Bradley at BMI event, August 28, 2024, Historic RCA Studio A
Hello friends, I hope you enjoyed a day off from your labor yesterday. We went for a walk at a local park and I took a long nap afterward. Last week was labor intensive and my body has been in recovery mode. The intractable headache hasn’t been too severe (thankfully), but the stress and added work of launch week for EVERY KIND OF UH-OH did exacerbate other central sensitization symptoms. What are those symptoms you ask? For the curiouser and curiouser I will elucidate: pulsatile tinnitus, nerve and muscle twitching, internal tremors and vibrating, skin sensitivity, full body pain, and fundamentally feeling really weird.
One of the complexities of living with this chronic pain disorder is that good often proceeds the need for recovery. For example, BMI, my 40+ year performing rights organization hosted a party for me last week. It was a couple of hours of being a public person again—being on, greeting folks, taking photographs—expending all energy reserves. It truly was lovely. Most of the family pitched in to make it happen. My grand-daughter Bridget oversaw the whole event in cooperation with BMI staff and Sheridan Gates from Historic RCA Studio A. Sadly, two of the official hosts, son Sam Ashworth and daughter-in-law Ruby Amanfu were sick with Covid. Ugh.
Then so many of you participated in making Friday's launch day a success and placing EVERY KIND OF UH-OH at the #1 spot on Amazon's singer-songwriter chart and Top 5 on iTunes. Thank you! Keep helping us overcome the dreaded algorithm with authentic responses to the material aka clicking and commenting. As I sing in the album's song "Less About When":
When I was a young man you'd never hear me say
I'm looking forward to my dying day
Now I see there's some benefit to waving goodbye
I will not miss the selling, the sell, sell, sell
To be received without receipts—now, that's when all is well
To be received without receipts is when all will be well
I've heard from many of you via email, social media, and YouTube. Thank you for your kind comments and enthusiasm. Anecdotally, it feels like this recording is resonating. Artists of my ilk make stuff knowing not everything will be for everyone. Still, a little consensus now and again feels good!
Now for a BIG SURPRISE. I thought I had made my last Music & Meaning podcast for season one on June 4th. Not true. There was one more yet to be created—one I didn't see coming. Why? A classic "change of plans."
Join me in conversation TODAY with close friend, singer-songwriter and Art House North co-founder Sara Groves—look for BONUS: The Future of Music & Meaning. Find out how music changed my plans for Music & Meaning. While the irony drips, listen in for the meaningful and wise words of Sara Groves. I consider her a national treasure. And, you'll get to hear one of her new songs too!
Here's what you'll find below: Full album credits, as well as info for ordering vinyl, CDs, Tees, and more. BTW, none of this goes to me, it's all to raise funds for UTR Media, a non-profit org I support, as they support good music.
Thanks for reading and listening!

I am a 68 year old lawyer, living in Dallas, with a Masters in Theology, and one who spends more time reading theology than the law. It is what I love.
Let me thank you for your music and your ministry. Your music has sustained me since I was very very young. In my world, your music is third only to Van Morrison and Josh Garrels, but that is a select group. God bless you for all that you have done for Christians around the world. Your music touches the soul, and I bet that you have no idea how many people have been truly uplifted by your music. Thank you for bringing some peace to my journey. Jamie Campbell
Tommy Sims! I always love to read liner notes to see if his name will come up!
